Pre-Wedding ... Local H Distraction 05.14.08
Wow, that little wedding of ours is coming up fast, huh? Gosh.

But enough about us ... I didn't update for the first time in forever to communicate about us. That's boring. I'm hear to share with each of you something very important. The new Local H album was released yesterday! Check out a review of the record here. Go ahead and treat yourself ...

See some of you soon : )

Engaged! 08.25.07
It brings me great pleasure, and with a big 'ole smile, I'm very excited to share with you that Tiffany and I are getting married 9 months from today. Our wedding date is May 25, 2008!

No, we're not getting married in 9 months because we are expecting. We've been engaged since April 20, 2007 (our one-year anniversary in our home in Minneapolis) - we just haven't shared much infomation about our engagement because it has taken us until now to settle on a date, a location, and all the other major fun details.

We're getting married on Sunday May 25, 2008 (Memorial Day weekend) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We're very excited to have our family and friends visit Minneapolis and celebrate our wedding with us. Interested in a few pictures since our engagement? Here you go: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Oh yeah, one more thing ... new slide-show in the slide-show section. It is from the trip Tiffany, Dipak, and I took to Europe at the end of June. Check it out.

Meeting Riley Kate Slavik 04.09.07
Back again. Must be a slow couple of months, huh? Completed a slide-show for the visit to CT to meet Riley Kate. Check it out in the slide-show section - there are a couple of nice pictures of the cute-ball.

Saw Chris Cornell last night (Easter Sunday) at "First Ave" (a great club in Minneapolis, made famous by Prince). He opened w/ Spoonman, Outshined, Hunger Strike, and Cochise. Killer set. Many, many thanks to Tiffany for tracking down and buying tickets (during the pre-sale) - before I even knew he was coming to MN.

Oh, and check out what I bought a few months ago: 1 | 2 | 3. How cool is that?!?!?!

Finally, going to Europe w/ Tiffany and Dipak this summer to see three Pearl Jam shows and see a few countries (UK, Denmark, The Netherlands, and Belgium). Anyone want to be our fourth? Currently accepting resumes ...

Riley Kate Slavik 02.26.07
Thought aboug going an entire year w/o an update, but I caved.

News:
Mike and Lauren had a baby girl!!! Riley Kate Slavik was born very early on Thursday 2/22/07. She weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces and was 18 inches tall. Mother and daughter are doing just fine ... not quite sure about Mike just yet : )

Many, many, congrats to the newest Slavik Family. Tiffany and I can't wait to meet Riley in person on March 15th. For those of you who haven't seen her yet, here you go: 1 | 2 | 3. Full update coming after the trip to CT to meet her St. Patrick's Day weekend.

In the meantime, we got some snow in Mineapolis this weekend. Check out the slide-show for proof.

International News. 04.10.06
Updated the slide-show section with an oldie, but goodie. The trip is from September of 2005. Great international trip ...

Speaking of international, leaving Columbia, SC at the end of this week. Just in time to miss the heat down here ... and get to Minnesota as it defrosts. Great timing.

Two in a Row. 03.28.06
Two days in a row. Must be a lot happening ...

Well, if you caught yesterday's update, you know Tiffany and I are moving to Minneapolis, MN. For those of you that didn't see yesterday's update, we're moving.

We flew up to Minnesota on Wednesday night and planned on house-hunting Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun. And by Saturday at about 7:30pm central time ... we had bought a house. Well, we bought a little starter house : ) See the slide-show for more details ...

I'll be flying back up this weekend to be there for the inspection, and if that goes well, the house is ours. So, we've got a few small steps to go ... but basically it's a done deal.

We're Moving Out ... 03.27.06
Took a few weeks off. That one update really wore me out.

Well, Tiffany and I are moving again. We'll be leaving Columbia, SC for Minneapolis, MN. Yeah, Minnesota.

More to come very soon ...

PS - I didn't get any of the final four picks right in my bracket (Duke, Gonzaga, UCONN, Boston College). Ouch.

Greetings from 2006 03.06.06
Welcome to 2006. Hope you're enjoying yourself thus far. Not much to say, but finally decided to put Thankgiving behind me. Boy was that Turkey good : )

New slide-show from September 2005. Check it out.

Watch the Oscars? I liked G. Clooney's speech, was really glad Phillip S. Hoffman won (and also enjoyed his speech). And as usual, want to see some of the movies that I missed ...

Have to mention - my little bro has been pushing me to update for a while now. He even sent me this:

"Just want to make sure your computer still works because you have not updated since Thanksgiving! Letting me down B. Well I'm gonna run to class, but just wanted to say I'm still a frequent viewer, and I hope one of these days I'll have some material to look at and read."

Thanksgiving 2005 11.24.05

One Week Later 11.21.05
Back. One week later. Updated a slide-show. More coming - but posted one update already.

Totally forgot to mention last time ... Tiffany got a new job (congrats!). She is now working for the FOX station here in Columbia. She's in charge of promotions ... so if anyone needs free stuff, let us know : )

And killer that South Carolina lost a heart-breaker to Clemson.

What All Ya Missed. 11.14.05
Sure I've lost some of you ... and I deserve that. For those of you still viewing - hello, again! Thanks for tuning in and sorry for my behavior (err - lack of updates).

Much to talk about, but so little worth sharing. Turned 26 years old since we last talked. Oh, how fast it has gone. Some things you might be interested in:
  • My mom bought a condo in Verona, NJ
  • Tiffany got me a sweet poker chip set for my b-day
  • Gonna buy the Friends - Complete 10 Seasons DVD Set. 40 DVDs! Comes out tomorrow : )
  • Saw Gwen Stefani in concert. Very solid performance
  • It was 70 degrees (at 6pm) today

Slide-show of my little bro's visit to Columbia, SC (August) coming this week. Then the Seattle trip ... which is one of the longest shows yet. Stay tuned my friends. Glad to be back.

  • The Dandy's Rule, Ok? 09.24.05
Lots to talk about, but will keep a narrow focus. Below is a review of 'The Dandy Warhols' album - Odditorium Or Warlords Of Mars from Rolling Stone:

Sometimes, good bands release outstandingly bad records. As sloppy and low on hooks as their previous album was tight and tuneful, the Dandy Warhols' Odditorium reverts to the Velvet Underground drone of the Portland, Oregon, foursome's earliest records -- minus those discs' hazy joy. Four tracks wander beyond the seven-minute mark without much variation, and even the Stones-y single "Smoke It" loses momentum after two minutes. Frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor particularly lacks commitment: He mumbles or whispers or puts on a goofy voice during most tracks, and only the spiraling space rock of "Down Like Disco" flaunts a riff strong enough to withstand his destruction. Whether it's a fuck-you to fans who scoffed at 2003's synth-poppy Welcome to the Monkey House or a vindictive fulfillment of their contractual obligation to Capitol Records, this crap smells bad any way you sniff it.
    BARRY WALTERS || (Posted Sep 22, 2005)

    Yup, 1 star.

    Greetings, From America 09.05.05
Hi there. Back from the west-coast. Seattle was a blast. Perfect weather. I can't wait for Fall. New Dandy Warhols album comes out Tuesday 9/13.

As expected, Pearl Jam rocked! Great show, great venue, great time. If you ever get the chance, go see a show @ The Gorge in Washington. You'll have to see it to believe it.

Had a great time out there. It was me, Tiffany, DC, and Dips. And we hung w/ Mike and Lauren a bit (thanks for letting us crash two nights!). Also met up w/ many of the west-coast PJ guys (Phil, Kelly, etc etc etc). Always fun to see those guys (though our time together was way too short).

I'm confident that ya'll will enjoy that slide-show ... whenever I get around to it. There is another new one up though. Final note - working on a Ben Lee "80 Minutes & I'll Change Your Life" compilation. Peace and love.

    August 24th 08.24.05
Tuesday 8/24/05. Seven years ago today was my first day of college. Seven years ago! 8/24/98. That is just sick. Been out of college for three years now. I still remember my first class - Monday 8/24/98 at 8am. Introduction to Engineering Analysis (IEA). Basically a statics course. My final grade was a C.

One of the reasons I remember the first day of college so well is because that first day of class also happened to be Jay's b-day. And he was one of my only friends at RPI at the time ... so it was a big deal : ) Ha. Well, Jay - happy 26th, old man.

And in unrelated, but similar, news ... Jay will be joining Tiffany, Dips, and I on our trip to Canada to see PJ! Yeah man!!! Very cool surprise ...

    Survivor 08.16.05
Greetings. Got another slide-show completed. Check it out.

My little bro is coming to visit this weekend - can't wait. Hope the college girls are ready for him.

Oh, and finished Season 1 of Survivor (for the first time). Great show. My favorite tv shows of all-time: Friends, Survivor, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sportscenter, and Price is Right.

    Finally, Updates 07.16.05
We need to make this communication more than two times a month, huh? Sorry about that.

Got two new slide-shows posted. Following Clare's bachelor party (which I didn't get much feedback on - oddly enough), is a slide-show from when Tiffany and I saw Ben Lee live. Very cool. And then, of course, Clare's wedding slide-show. Hope you enjoy these two newbies ... and more to come soon. Stay tuned.

    Money, Get Away 06.30.05
Boy oh Boy. Spent some moneys this week. Got me a bunch of stuff though:
  • cds: Sleater-Kinney - The Woods // Missy Higgens - The Sound of White // Keane - Hopes and Fears
  • dvds: JFK Collector's Edition // Jaws Collector's Edition // Chinatown // Kill Bill Vol. 1 // Kill Bill Vol. 2 // Pushing Tin // Keeping the Faith

All used at my favorite Columbia record store. For a grand total of: $78.97. This is what I spend my earnings on.

  • Three Years and Counting ... 06.15.05
More news. Yesterday was Mike and Lauren's 3rd anniversary! Congrats to them. Can't believe it's been so long. Miss you both!

Ahhh, while we're talking about Mike and Lauren, jump on over to the slide-shows to see the newest update which they star in (well, Lauren has more of a supporting role in this update ... sorry Lauren!!!). Anyway, ya'll should check it out.

    Announcements?!?! 04.24.05
I'm going to miss April. Always one of the best months ... end of March madness, start of baseball season, beginning of spring, and the early planning stages of summer. Ahhhhh, April.

    A few announcements.
  • First - Saturday morning I got Tiffany and I tickets to see U2 in Charlotte, NC on December 12th. Crazy that tickets go on sale this soon. The real cool part is - they are playing a brand spankin' new arena. It will be one of the first events held there (the future home of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats).
  • Second - DC, Dips, Brian, and I each got tickets to two games for the 2006 World Cup in Germany! Many, many thanks to DC who coordinated the whole thing ... splendid.
  • And finally - found out on Saturday that my friends Kelly and Kelly are having their first child! They are due in August and it's a boy! How awesome. Congrats to the Kelly's!!! And don't worry ... Dips and I won't hold it against you that you waited so long to tell us (Hey Dips ... I bet this is the first you're hearing of it, huh?). Ha. I had to call them to find out : (

  • Fan Mail? 04.21.05
Ahhh, a week from today Tiffany and I will be in upstate New York. One of the greatest places I've ever been. Been lucky enough to travel a bit for someone my age, and I wouldn't trade upstate New York for very many places. I hope everyone agrees. We will be there Thursday before driving out to Long Island for the remainder of the weekend for Clare's wedding (can't believe I just wrote that).

Bet it seems like I'm posting email a lot these days, sorry if its over-kill, but I receive some real great email that has to be shared ...

An email out of the blue from a college friend - Kris Yee

About three days a week Ken has one of these waiting for me by the time I get to work.

Another classic from Ken. This is what happens after we play tennis. He's the best writer ever.

    Clare's Bachelor Party Preview 04.13.05
Illinois cost me money. And I really liked their team. Shame they couldn't win it all - but oh well.

Spent this past weekend back home in Jersey. One of my oldest friends, Mr. Mike Clare, is getting married on April 30th ... so we threw him a bachelor party on Saturday April 9th! Very fun. The reason you're learning about it on the Wednesday afterwards is I'm just now recovered (barely) enough to type. And the celebration was Saturday. I've known Mike since I was 9 and I've never had an adventure with him quite like this ...

Don't believe me? See for yourself. This is how much fun Mike (the one on the right) and his best man - his older brother Tom - had. Can't wait for the wedding : )

    ACT 1 04.04.05
I wrote a little story ... interested??? Hope so. Please bare with me. You might enjoy this ride. If you get on board. Mike and I had a conversation last night that just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Amazing. I'm too excited to tell this story. In this zone. So please don't give up on this journey. It's not short, so take your time. ACT 2 to follow sometime.
    ACT 1.

    Joey Speaks 03.27.05
    Gotta love fan mail, right?

I am very impressed! Look at you updating the web page, at least 3 times in
the last week or two. I like the way you worked in the Post office in the
picture from st. pats day. The appt looks good, et and e2 looked good, if
you remember bring mom a picture of the boys when you come home, you will
make her day. As for now, i have to run to class.
    Nice job
    joey

Sweet, huh? Thanks to my little brother Joey for the positive feedback ... he's without question my biggest fan. And always the first to call or write after an update (good or bad).

    St. Patrick's Day ... 03.23.05
Everyone have a nice St. Patrick's Day weekend? Hope so.

I for one, got wasted. Well to be fair, Tiffany and I got wasted. Let me explain. Columbia, SC has a pretty large St. Patty's Festival. They close part of downtown, set-up carnival food, beer trucks, invite a few bands, and all the local bars have inside and outside activities. It's a big deal around here. Well, this year Collective Soul was the headliner.

    Here are a few pictures I took of the band: 1 | 2 | 3

We got downtown about 1pm and home about 3am. From 1:00pm --- 1:30am we were drinking. Nice. Spent almost the entire day with a few really cool people that Tiffany met a few weeks ago. And this has to be said - we were at a bar (12am) and some Pearl Jam came on. Our "new friends" were singing and dancing! And we ended the night at IHOP. They have potential.

    Site Design Change 03.16.05
Today I made a site change that was such an obvious and easy improvement that I can't believe that 1) I didn't think of it earlier, and 2) that nobody ever mentioned it.

The image at the top of each section (the RobertSlavik.com banner) is now clickable. You click on that to get back to the main (index) page. Why wasn't it designed like that? Sorry.

Well, I'm not going to spoon-feed you all the time, but I feel you've earned this one. I updated the slide-show section. Again, I won't always post changes in the Cover Page notes but since you've waited so long (and have looked so many times and seen no progress) ... because I can't afford to loose ya'll ... there is your freebie.

Have a safe and fun St. Patrick's Day.

    Buy This Album! 03.10.05
Mike and Lauren got me the Star Wars DVD set. Very cool - thanks. Tiffany and I watched Star Wars IV - A New Hope last night. Gotta say, in some parts the audio sounded as bad as one of my movies. What gives? Anyone else notice this? Just some real poor dialogue matching ... strange.

I ramble about music and make claims about this and that ... but trust me on this one!!! Ben Lee - Awake Is The New Sleep. Ben Lee's new album, released 2/20/05, is a must. I'm so sure you'll like it, I'll make you a deal ...

This is a RobertSlavik.com exclusive. You buy the album, listen to it (a few times), and if you don't think the album was worth the money, write me 250-500 words explaining why and I'll pay you the money you "lost." The catch is, I get to post your feedback on this site. Fair enough? Without question, 9/10 of you will love it. Go buy it!!!

Click here to read a review of the album.

PS - You can get it for $9.99 on Itunes.com if you'd like.

    Merry Christmas 12.25.04
This is most likely the last update of 2004. Hope ya'll are having a great Christmas and that your 2005 meets your expectations. After all, isn't that what life is all about?

It's Christmas night, about 8:40pm EST, and I'm at my apartment in South Carolina. My girlfriend Tiffany just went to work so everyone in the Columbia, SC area (which is apparently known as the Midlands) can have their nightly news. I on the other-hand will be headed to bed when this is complete because I'll be at work tomorrow (Sunday 12/26) about about 6am.

The forecast for late tonight and early tomorrow calls for a few inches of snow, we'll see. Anyway, my Christmas was filled with lots of great gifts and I hope your was too.

A Word From the Cheap Seats 11.30.04
Not what you're expecting. Two weeks off (from updating) and an update in the Writings section entitled, "A Word From the Cheap Seats" that contains a few pictures. Odd.

The above image is from a Pearl Jam show I saw in Asheville, NC. It's just to give you an idea of how great the show looks up close. Pretty nice picture, huh?

The image above this is from a Pearl Jam show I saw in St. Louis, MO - the night before the Asheville, NC show. As you can see in this picture, Ed and the guys played to an amazing room known as the Fox Theater.

A closer look at the same picture from the St. Louis show. If you look real close, you can see Tiffany and I.

    Marketing Power 11.16.04
One of my favorite companies ... Apple. Their design is sweet. Their marketing is sweet. And for the first time in my life, I'm banking on their product. It better be sweet.

You see, I don't own a Mac. Never have. But I did get an I-pod for my birthday. Very cool. Not sure I deserved it, but don't tell her that : )

What a cool toy. Too early to really evaluate the product, but the concept was perfect. So was the timing. And as I already mentioned, I think their design and marketing rule. I'll keep everyone updated ...

And since I know you're dying to know ... Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By was the first song I listened to on it.

    "Love the New Site" 11.14.04
Hey all. Rob here (of course).

This writings section is going to be interactive. Mostly because, well frankly, I don't have all that much to say. As you probably already know my site was the same for about two months. No updates. Well, I finally put a little work into it and this is what I get for my efforts : )

Below is an email from my girlfriend Tiffany. This is what she had to say about the changes i made ... enjoy ...

    yo slavik.
just caught your website...it was filler for me while i have YOUR laundry going :) guess you've disabled the slide show part for now???

i like it. of course, i miss the old contact info pic, but the new one is so you that it works.

i'm wondering what kind of mood you were in when you wrote it...the 'about' page.

i think it's this part that really got me; Realize things are never as good as they should be. That quite simply - life ain't all that much fun. It's hard work.

    that's too bad, man.
i mean...you're 25, make enough money to jet all across the country and see your friends at the drop of a hat...work in a job with steady work/income/benefits. you aren't suffering any terrible diseases, you have a great group of friends all over who care a lot about you. you have parents and a family who loves you very much...and i thought you were in a pretty decent relationship ...but, if nothing is ever as good as it should be, and you apparently won't ever be happy, then what's the answer?

you're a tough sell, slavik. and that's just too bad.

how about next time you log onto your own website...use it as a release for something good. i'm not saying you have to do that all the time, cuz we all know it's the bad stuff that really gets us fired up...but, why don't you vent some fun stuff every now and then. like, do a top ten list of funny things that happened last week. list things that you did that made you feel good (um...certain self- pleasing activities don't necessarily need to be included).

i don't know, try to mention the fact that you think you're lucky to be surrounded (albeit far-away surrounded) by people who inspire you and challenge you.

geez man...it would be nice to know you didn't always think everything s*cks so freakin' much, ya know?

i'm starting my own website called 'man up slavik.com'
    : P

What do you guys think? Would ya rather read about good or bad stuff? Let me know, please. And that about sums up Tiffany :) Ha. Nah, she's got some real good points. I have a tendency to overlook all the good and focus my efforts and voice on the bad. So, her little reminder will help shape things to come.

And feel free to send me stuff to include in this writings section. Oh, and like Tiffany just learned the hard way, keep in mind your thoughts might end up here anyway : )

    If 25 = 1/3 then x = Life 11.13.04
If I live to be 75, then my time here just recently hit the one-third mark. Wow.

But, I've got a lot to show for it. In no order at all: started a career, bought a new car, moved in with my girlfriend, seen 20+ Pearl Jam shows, failed a final exam (or two), been a bad son (once or twice), slept in a car, hit a home-run (never over a fence though), graduated college, lost some great friends, drank too much, fought with my brothers, ... and the list goes on.
    main
